Art is how we reconnect.
Imperfect flow helps people decompress and reconnect with themselves — through guided art-making rooted in evidence-based stress and anxiety techniques. No experience needed. Imperfection is the key.

Hi, I'm Chelsea.
I'm the artist and facilitator behind Imperfect flow. Making art got me through some of my hardest seasons, and I wanted to bring that same calm to other people. I firmly believe that everyone is creative and we can help you get unstuck and enjoy life again with evidence-based, simple to use tools, and expressive art making.
I handle everything: materials, setup, and create a warm, judgment-free space where no one has to be “good” at art.
Let the creativity flow. ✺

Where psychology meets the paintbrush.
Most of us carry more than we let on — stacked-up appointments, late nights, the low hum of anxiety that never quite switches off. We're rarely given a place to put it down.
Imperfect flow is that place. Our 120-minute classes pair guided abstract painting with the same techniques therapists use to calm the nervous system — physiological sighs, the RAIN method, journaling, mindful reflection. You don't talk it out. You paint it out.
By the end, you've made something with your own hands — a little self-portrait of whatever you walked in carrying — and you leave lighter than you came.
A few things we hold true.
This isn't about good art
It's about creative expression — with a little guidance. Your marks don't have to be perfect. Wonky lines and happy accidents are welcome here.
Rooted in real science
Every class is built on evidence-based stress and anxiety techniques — breathwork, RAIN, and mindfulness — woven gently into the painting process.
Everyone belongs
Burned out, anxious, chronically ill, caregiving, or just running on empty — whatever you're carrying, there's a seat for you at the table.
Come paint it out.
Sessions run as small, intimate groups in San Diego. Reach out and we'll let you know when the next one opens up.
